A Great Family Vacation at Breckenridge Ski Resort
The Breckenridge Ski Resort can be found in the Central Colorado Mountains about a two-hour drive from Denver. The Resort is 104 miles (166km) from Denver International Airport. From the airport, take Interstate 70 west to exit 203 and then continue south on HWY 9 to the resort.
Breckenridge is both a major ski resort in Colorado and a quaint mountain town nestled into the mountains in Summit County. Here, I will concentrate on the ski area. Breck, as the locals often call it, has a base elevation of 9,600 feet/ 2,926 meters. At the summit, the elevation is 12,998 feet/ 1,036 meters. Overall, the resort has 2,358 acres of total terrain with 29% of it groomed every day. It also has 772 acres of bowls and 25 acres of terrain parks. There are 155 trails and 30 lifts throughout the Resort.
Ski and snowboarding lessons are available for both adults and children, including specialty programs for seniors, women and adaptive ski lessons for those with a disability. There are also park and pipe camps.
Breckenridge Ski Resort has what seems to be an unending selection of activities to do while you’re there. You could explore the Country Boy Mine or perhaps spend a crisp, clear morning dogsledding with Siberian Huskies through the National Forest.
You can take a skiing tour with a Forest Ranger, or go to the Breckenridge Nordic Center for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in the White River National Forest. There is also horseback riding and a dinner sleigh ride with breathtaking, snowy backdrops.
In the summer, why not try horseback riding, hot air balloon rides and golf at the Keystone Golf Resort?
If you need a break from the slopes, or you prefer to be indoors, time at a luxury spa might be just what you’re looking for.
Summer or winter, there are many activities for kids at Breck. These include the Breckenridge Recreation Center which has a climbing wall, basketball and many other things to do.
The town of Breckenridge has many, many special choices for lodging and accommodations. There are condos, mountain lodges, inns and hotels, bed and breakfast homes and single-family homes to rent. The town is filled with historic homes that lend an ambiance and warmth that makes you immediately feel like you’ve come home.
If you’re hungry or thirsty, restaurants and bars abound in town. You could easily stay for a month and find a different place to eat every night!
So, if you’re looking for a year-round resort in a very inviting mountain town, Breckenridge skiing might be just right.
