Steamboat Springs Ski Resort was carved out of an entire mountain range, including Mount Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Pioneer Ridge and Christie Peak. Altogether, the ski resort has 2,965 acres of terrain. In particular, Steamboat’s deep and snowy gladed areas, which can be found on Pioneer Ridge, Sunshine Peak and Storm Peak are world-famous.
Steamboat has trails for all levels of ability, so it makes a great destination for your family vacation. There are 165 trails (maybe more) which are 14% beginner, 42% intermediate and 44% advanced.
The base area at Steamboat Springs Ski Resort is 6,900 ft/2103 m and its highest elevation is at the summit of Mt. Werner at 10,568 ft/3224 m.
Steamboat Springs has a total of 18 lifts, including an 8-passenger gondola, a high-speed 6-seat lift, five high-speed quads, one conventional chairlift, six triple chairlifts, two double chairlifts and two surface lifts.
And not to neglect snowboarders, Steamboat has a terrain park which features an outdoor sound system, a variety of rails-kinked, sliders, rainbows, “s” mailboxes, double barrel, and Mini-Mav, a miniature version of the superpipe with eight-foot walls, perfect for beginning riders.
Then there is the Mavericks Superpipe, which is a freerider’s dream. Mavericks is 450 feet long, 56-feet wide, has 18-foot walls, and a 22-foot transition.
Dining at Steamboat Ski Resort offers a wide range of possibilities:
If you would like to dine at the top of the mountain, you can take the Steamboat Gondola to the top. Then climb into the snowcat-powered sleigh which will whisk you through the snow to Ragnar’s, where you will be treated to a gourmet dinner.
If you take the Gondola to mid-mountain, you will be able to enjoy Hazie’s, where you can choose a gourmet meal served with spectacular views of the Yampa Valley spread out below you.
For a great family experience, enjoy the Western BBQ Buffet at the top of the mountain.
There are also several great spots on the mountain for breakfast and lunch, such as The Stoker or, if you just want to grab a quick lunch or snacks and drinks, the Four Points Hut which can be found at the top of the Four Points Lift. The Hut is a great spot for a quick stop and then back on the mountain!
