Second Largest Ski Resort in North America!
Vail Resorts is located in Summit County in the Central Colorado Mountains 120 miles west of Denver, and 30 miles east of Eagle.
Vail Mountain is divided into three parts: the Front Side, Blue Sky Basin and the Back Bowls, with over 5,200 skiable acres (21 km2). This acreage is divided into the Front Side with 1,627 acres, the Back Bowls with 3,017 acres and the Blue Sky Basin with 645 acres.
The Mountain has a base elevation of 8,120 ft./2,476 m. and a peak elevation of 11,570 ft./3,527 m.
There are 193 ski trails with 18% beginner, 29% intermediate and 53% expert/advanced. There are also 31 lifts. In addition, there are three terrain parks: Bwana, Pride and Golden Peak Park, along with one superpipe and one halfpipe.
Most of the mountain is wide open terrain, with trails of all levels. There are cruising runs from most Front Side and Blue Sky Basin lifts. Then there are the wide open Back Bowls, glades, chutes, and moguls in the Northwoods area, along with the cornices in Blue Sky Basin.
Unlike other Colorado ski towns such as Aspen, Steamboat Springs or Breckenridge, which were actual towns prior to the establishment of their ski resorts, the town of Vail grew as a result of the establishment of Vail Resorts in 1962.
Lodging and accommodations at Vail are available for many different budgets and preferences. They are found in eight distinct areas of the town of Vail: East Vail, Golden Peak, Lionshead Village, Vail Village, Cascade Village and Sandstone.
For good eats in Vail, there are many restaurants, lunch spots and coffee shops to suit your every mood. Just for example, if you’d like an elegant dinner, you can go to the Game Creek Restaurant, situated high above Vail and known for its fabulous view.
Or, you could choose to dine at Chap’s Grill & Chophouse in Cascade Village or Chicago Pizza in Vail Village and be very satisfied.
Vail Resorts, built not quite 50 years ago on a mountain that had not previously been used for skiing and with no existing town, has emerged as a first-class resort which is known the world over.
